One of Ocala’s premier cultural attractions, Ocala Civic Theatre, will turn 73 on March 3rd. Tickets are available and on sale now for a diverse array of plays and musicals.
There is still time to see “Into the Breeches” playing through February 5. George Brant’s dramatic comedy is set in Ocala! The program description reads “YES WE CAN, say Ocala’s women of the arts as they roll up their sleeves to do battle with Shakespeare! The firm conviction of theatrical troupe director Maggie Dalton and other local ladies is that even with all the boys overseas, they can still put on a first-rate, (almost) all-female production of Henry IV & V.”
Ocala Civic Theatre’s mission is to uplift, inspire, and entertain by providing quality theatrical experiences and performing arts education. That certainly seems so looking at the remainder of their winter productions.
Education is key to the mission of OCT. A variety of classes are offered year-round both in person and online for people of all ages. There’s even a class for children who are home-schooled. The class description reads, “OCT’s Performing Arts Club is specially made for our community’s non-traditional learners. Once a week, join other creative youth to explore theatre arts in a nurturing and fun community at our theatre. Open to all levels of experience, objectives of the programming include strengthening of creative problem-solving, teamwork, and communication skills (verbal, nonverbal, and written).”
OCT is no doubt a valuable asset to the Ocala community.
