Ocala officially has a new name in affordable housing to take note of.
The Oak Valley Senior Apartments held their grand opening in mid-September. And thus marked the beginning of a new day in the affordable housing world in Marion County.
The COVID-19 pandemic caused a slew of issues for those seeking affordable housing options throughout the central Florida area. Even as the pandemic began to dissipate, affordable housing opportunities were few and far between. But then along came Oak Valley, a collaborative effort between Housing Trust Group and the non-profit organization AM Affordable Housing Inc. The latter was the brainchild of former Miami Heat Hall Of Famer and NBA champion Alonzo Mourning.
"It took the hard work of many people over many years to bring this community out of the ground, and I believe it is a testament to the extraordinary things that are possible when the public sector and the private market work together,” Matthew Rieger, the CEO of Housing Trust Group, told WUFT. ” Affordable communities like Oak Valley therefore, become a critical lifeline for these seniors, allowing them to remain close to their loved ones, support systems, healthcare providers and the community they’ve always known.
The complex comes equipped with both one-story and two-story units. The rent for various units is anywhere from $400 to $750.
