Developers are plotting to build a string of multi-family units along a piece of State Road 200 in Ocala that spans nearly a mile and a quarter.
There's a growing demand for housing in the Ocala area due to an increased amount of jobs, and the only way to meet that demand is by increasing the supply. Developers have laid out the plans to build 728 new multi-family units on that piece of SR-200; the units will be a mix of town homes, duplexes and apartments. Of those 728 units, the breakdown is expected to be 498 townhomes/duplexes and 230 apartments along this stretch of SR-200, spanning about 144 acres.
This upcoming array of multi-family homes is just the latest in a string of new developments across Marion County. Business has been booming in Ocala, which experts are pointing to as the driving factor behind the rush to build multi-family homes in Marion County. The Ocala Star Banner points out the fact that, "For a decade, Marion County officials have known of a housing shortage, especially of multi-family units." As business continued booming, the city of Ocala realized that the need for more housing opportunities was growing more and more immediate.
