Late last week, the new main terminal at Ocala International Airport opened for business. This project was jointly made possible by the airport, the airport’s operator (Sheltair), the city, and the Florida Department of Transportation.
This public-private investment, created to accommodate increased travel in Ocala and Marion County, cost $7 million dollars and will serve business and leisure travelers, including those who will visit the World Equestrian Center, scheduled to open in 2021.
In addition to dedicated space for administrative and operator offices and three rental car locations (Avis, Enterprise, and Hertz), the terminal, measured at almost 16,000-square-feet, also has community event space. A local restaurant is slated to open next year.
In other airport news, a new 19,800-square-foot hangar with doors designed to comfortably fit new corporate jets is in the works as is a main taxiway rehab project.
