Back in 2014, a local youth job expo only attracted 5 businesses to attend. More than 250 young adults gathered in the hopes of finding a job. At that time the unemployment rate was 7.3 percent and over 9,500 local residents were unemployed.
Last Wednesday, it became clear the economy had come full circle. At the fifth annual CareerSource CLM job fair, a record 35 business attended. It was held at CF, where the applicants could wait inside instead of in the heat as they did back in 2014. Most of the hopeful young adults were seniors on the verge of graduating high school.
What does this change mean? The market is now a worker’s market. With a 4.6 percent unemployment rate there are only 6,178 people unemployed. That’s 8,205 more people working today than there were in 2014.
