Good news for all of you Ocala horse fans. The Ocala Initiative has been officially funded, thanks to a variety of Florida-based organizations who raised $100,000 towards the effort. Founded by the Grayson Jockey Club Research Foundation, the Ocala Initiative was designed to garner support from horse farms and businesses, as well as from individual donors, in order to advance equine research to improve overall horse health and welfare.
The organization hopes to get another hundred thousand dollars in individual donations to match the organizational funds that have already been raised.
Over the summer, Tampa Bay Downs and a Gulfstream Park joined the Grayson Jockey Club as partners in the Ocala Initiative, which really boosted funds for the organization. There are also plans to bring similar initiatives to other equine communities around the nation.
The Grayson Jockey Club is the top source in the country for private funding of research for all breeds of horses. Since the foundation’s inception in 1983, it has given $22 million to over 320 projects at 41 universities.
