Ocala is about to get a visit from a famous Oscar winner. But not because he's filming a movie in Ocala. Kevin Costner, The super famous and acclaimed actor who has starred in countless Oscar award-winning films, has a country rock band called Modern West that will be performing a concert on Saturday at Ocala's Circle Square Cultural Center.
The band is a contemporary country group that began performing nine years ago when Costner partnered with his longtime friend and award-winning song writer John Coinman. Coinman was also the music supervisor for Costner's highly acclaimed Oscar-winning film "Dances with Wolves."
Costner sings lead vocals in the band, and describes the music as a lively, optimistic and up-beat blend of country and rock. Modern West’s concerts tend to begin with a short film compilation of clips from Costner's multiple movie roles, as movies played and continue to play a huge role in his life and who he is. He feels there is a tremendous link between his movies and his music. Costner believes his music allows him to connect with people "in a more meaningful way than just the autograph."
