Weekend lineup: Carnivals and cattle drives

carnivalIf you are looking for something to do this weekend in Ocala while taking advantage of this beautiful February weather, look no further. From carnivals to cattle drives, you are sure to find something that fits the bill. And if you prefer to be indoors for a little art and culture, we have got you covered there, too.

Today kicks off The Winter Carnival at Trinity Catholic High School and The Southeastern Youth Fair Country Carnival at the Southeastern Livestock Pavilion. Both options will include plenty of rides, games and of course, food. Bring on the funnel cakes prizes!

If history and anthropology are more your thing, check out the Silver River Knap-In. Silver Springs State Park and the Silver River Museum are hosting this festival, which will showcase prehistoric arts and tool-making, including flint snappers, archery demonstrations, tomahawks, spear-throwing and much more.

For more outdoor fun, check out the Cattle Drive and Rotary Discovery Fest, where cowboys will be herding cattle starting on Saturday morning. They will be led through downtown Ocala to the fest at Tuscawilla Park. There, you will find fun for the whole family, including music, games, food, animals, demonstrations and so much more.

When it comes time to get your culture fix, pay a visit to the Reilly Arts Center, where Ronald Keaton is starring in “Churchill,” a one-man show about the life of Winston Churchill at the end of World War II. This show has been a high success while touring the country.

Or, to delight the ears, take advantage of the free concert presented by The Marion Chamber Music Society featuring Karen Adair, a wonderful Ocala soprano who will be accompanies by pianist Martha McKie. The performance will include amazing works, including Leonard Bernstein’s Mass and Joseph Haydn’s “Creations.”
