With Valentine’s Day quickly approaching, now is the time to get in those last-minute romantic weekend plans.
The Ocala Symphony Orchestra is offering a lovely lineup of musical pieces from the Romantic era in a performance entitled “Star-Crossed Lovers.” The concerts will include Sergei Prokofiev’s “Romeo and Juliet” suite, a symphonic poem based on the Goddess of Love and Fertility, and Johannes Brahms’ “Tragic Overture in D minor.” The concerts begin on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at the Reilly Arts Center and on Sunday, Valentine’s Day, at 3 p.m. Tickets for the show will range from $10 to $35, and you can visit ocalasymphony.com for more info.
For more musical performances, check out Romantico, a duo performing “The Prayer,” “Time to Say Goodbye,” and “Phantom of the Opera,” among others. The quartet Quattro “Four” Divo, who will be performing in conjunction with Romantico, will offer a pop-classical set including romantic songs performed in English, Spanish, Italian and Portuguese. In tribute news, Orange Blossom Opry will pay tribute to Karen Carpenter, with Suzanne Morgan singing the music of The Carpenters, chock full of romantic ballads. The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. You can purchase tickets at obopry.com.
Perhaps the most exciting, the Grammy Award-winning country music band, Diamond Rio will also be performing at the Orange Blossom Opry on Valentine’s Day, with tickets ranging from $40-$44. Diamond Rio is a four-time Country Music Association’s Vocal Group of the Year, and is known for so many hits, including “Meet in the Middle,” among others.
