The estimated value of Marion County property is 4.1% higher than it was in the final 2014 calculation, according to the preliminary figure that the School Board will use to set its tax rates for 2015-2016.
The inventory of vacant homes is beginning to shrink, and the combined taxable value of all property in Marion County is at $16.55 billion, up $658 million from the prior year. There have also been signs of more jobs in the area.
Property values increased the most in the city of Ocala, by 7.04%, primarily because Munroe Medical Center was leased to a private-sector company last year. Values also increased in Rainbow Lake Estates by 4.46% and McIntosh by 3.72%. Belleview, Dunnellon and Reddick, among others, also show an increase in property values. The only area where property values decreased was the Hills of Ocala, where the drop was 1.22%.
These estimates are as of June 1, with final figures being released on July 1.
