After working for seven months on the stretch of Northwest Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue, construction is finally going smoothly after delays due to the coronavirus. The pandemic set the schedule back by only thirty days after complicating and delaying the arrival of specific materials and the manufacturing necessary equipment.
Once the facility is complete it will include a brand new Ocala Fire Rescue station, Ocala Polce Department substation, and a community center that will also feature a new basketball court. The newly equipped campus will also become the new Ocala Fire Rescue administration headquarters, which will be the first designated official headquarters for this department in nearly 50 years. Previously, a pair of remodeled residential buildings provided the location for the headquarters so the department no longer has to use a shared space with any other city department.
This new location also gives the Ocala Police Department a more permanent space in the community. The new campus will provide the community with more safety and easier access to safety services when needed.
