The Frank DeLuca YMCA has already held six drive-thru food distribution events in these last few weeks and plan on continuing them to help the community. An additional 200 families were able to take home much needed household items and groceries including plenty of fresh fruits and veggies. This small act of kindness is making a huge impact in Ocala as countless families are able to continue to get by in this epidemic.
The YMCA did not do this work alone, however. They completed this event with the help from members of the community in Ocala like the employees of DeLuca Toyota as well as YMCA volunteers. They all helped hand out groceries and items to cars as they passed by in a line. They are able to give back to the community and stay together while still maintaining proper social distancing.
This event was also accomplished thanks to funding from the Marion County Hospital District. These employees have assisted with all six of these drive-thru food distribution events, and because of them, these drive-thrus will continue in the future. The next few will be held on May 28th as well as June 3rd, both from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
